Mary Baker Eddy
Mary Baker Eddy, a remarkable woman of the 19-20th centuries, was an author, publisher and religious leader at a time when women’s rights were not yet fully recognized. Regularly on the front page of newspapers, she was known worldwide.
Her revolutionary book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, contains the explanation of Christian Science and includes over 100 pages of verified healings. She founded the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, which now has democratically governed branches throughout the world. She instituted a publishing house which prints a daily newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, as well as weekly and monthly magazines featuring articles on Christian Science practice and verified testimonies of healing. The King James Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
Passages from the Bible and related passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures create the weekly Bible Lesson. This is studied daily by students of Christian Science. It forms the Sunday sermon which is read aloud by two elected lay members of the church. The same sermon is read in every branch church worldwide.
